# Making and editing Bookings from the Diary
## You can add walk-ins, create new bookings and edit existing bookings directly from the Diary.
**Your Booking Form is getting an update on Monday 9 November. Here’s whats changing.**
The **Walk-in** and **+ Booking** buttons sit at the top right of every Diary view, so you can add guests from the Timeline, Floor plan or Run sheet views.
### To add a walk-in
1. Select **Walk-in** from the top right hand side of the Diary.
2. Check the **Status**, **Party size**, **Duration**, **Service**, **Section**, **Time** and **Table**.
3. Choose how to finish:
a. **Seat for \[time\]** - seats the guest without customer details. It saves as **Walk In**.
b. **Add to Wait List** - adds the guest to the wait list.
c. **Next** - lets you add customer details, this is optional.
4. Search for the customer by **name** or **phone**, or enter their details. Tick **Save as a new customer** to create a customer record.
5. Select **Seat for \[time\]** at the top right and side of your screen.
### To create a booking
Select **+ Booking** to open the booking form. The booking form is split into 3 stages.
Stage 1 - Booking Details
1. Set the **Status**, **Date**, **Party size**, **Duration**, **Service** and **Section**. Select the **phone** or **email** icon to record how the booking came in.
2. Select a **Time**.
3. Check the **Table**.
4. Select **Next**.
Stage 2 Customer Details
1. Search for the customer by **phone** or **name**, or select **New customer** and enter their details.
2. Set their marketing preference. You can select Book from here or go to stage 3 if payment is required.
Stage 3 - Payment
1. To take a payment, scroll to the bottom of the Customer stage and select **Add payment**.
2. Select the option - Deposit, full payment, Pre Authorisation
3. Select book
4. Confirm customer details and send the payment link to the customer via email, SMS or copy the payment URL if you'd like to send it another way.
**Good to know:**
- An invalid phone number or email will stop the booking from saving.
- A phone number or email is only needed if a payment is attached.
- Tick **Do not send emails or SMS** to stop messages for this booking only.
- Confirmation emails go to the customer and the Booked By contact if they have a valid email address and messages aren’t turned off.
### To edit a booking
1. Select the booking on the **Timeline** or in the **Bookings** list, or search for the guest in **Search customer**.
2. Make quick edits to time, date, table and pax without additional clicks.
1. To update the guest’s details, you'll need to select **Edit** beside their name first.
3. Select **Save**.
**Good to know:**
- Turn on **Lock booking** to stop the booking being edited or moved.
- Select **Show changes** under **Booking history** to see every edit.
